Reuseable Dynamic Strain Sensor 740B02

Quartz piezoelectric strain sensors output the same mV/microstrain sensitivity throughout the entire useful range, avoiding nonlinearity issues associated with Wheatstone Bridge-based strain sensors exhibit when used beyond the useful midrange of measurement.

High resolution, high sensitivity and fast response make the Model 740B02 ideal for the measurement of dynamic strain. The sensor integrates a proprietary quartz sensing element and built-in microelectronic circuitry within a low-profile titanium housing. The strain sensor provides a resolution of 0.0006µε over a 0.5 to 100,000 Hz bandwidth. It is compatible with PCB's ICP sensor signal conditioners and being used with even long runs of coaxial cable. Typical applications include:

Reusable ICP Piezoelectric strain sensors can be used in modal analysis to assess structural integrity of aircraft during ground vibration testing and flight testing to determine high stress levels. They may also be used for measurement of strain-displacement relationships and load predictions. Often used to supplement accelerometers, the small size of Series 740 strain sensors minimizes interference with aerodynamic properties of aircraft for flight test measurements. For applications where low strain levels occur, series 740 piezoelectric ICP® strain sensors generate output ten thousand times larger than the output of a resistive strain gauge. Its high sensitivity provides up to ±5 volts output at ±100 micro-strain.

Model 740B02 mounts easily and quickly to painted metals, composites, plastics and other materials in the field with gel-type super glue, and may be re-used multiple times or reapplied if alignment is not correct on the first application. Removal is simplified with a debonding agent and supplied removal tool. The strain sensor is also supplied with a calibration certificate.

PCB RHM240 Series Industrial ICP Strain Sensors incorporate piezoelectric quartz sensing crystals that respond to a longitudinal change in distance. The resultant strain measurand is an indirect measurement of stress forces acting along the structure to which the sensor is mounted. As such, these devices can provide insight into the behavior of mechanical systems or processes that generate an associated machinery reaction.
