75 lbf Dual Purpose Shaker

Model 2075E

When performing experimental modal analysis, the choice of excitation function and system can make the difference between a good measurement and a poor one.  For many modal test applications, an electrodynamic shaker system is best suited for creating an appropriate input forcing function.  Distributing adequate input force energy across the test structure and obtaining accurate and reliable input force measurements is critical for successful modal testing.  This often requires a shaker that is highly portable, rugged and easy to set up in order to facilitate the best exciter location (relative to the test structure) while minimizing any unwanted interaction between the exciter and test structure.

The Modal Shop 2025E, a very lightweight electrodynamic modal exciter, is capable of providing 13 lbf (58 N) of peak force excitation in a small footprint weighing just 13 lb (6 kg).  With a 0.7 in (18 mm) stroke and frequency range up to 9 kHz, the 2025E is suitable for structural testing and experimental modal analysis applications, including single and multiple inputs (SIMO and MIMO) using random, burst random, sine dwell and chirp excitation signals.

The Modal Shop 2075E electrodynamic exciter is a small and lightweight, yet powerful permanent magnet shaker, providing up to 75 pounds (334N) pk sine force. A large armature (3.25 inch [8.3 cm] diameter platform table supporting payloads up to 7 lbs [3.2 kg]) makes the shaker ideal for traditional vibration control testing of components and subassemblies. The unit is also designed with a through-hole armature and includes a chuck and collet attachment, providing simple set-up with stingers for experimental modal analysis applications. When used in this configuration, these stingers greatly simplify test setup with an easy connection to the force sensor and test structure, and help decouple crossaxis force inputs, minimizing force measurement errors.

The shaker is supplied in a standard trunnion mounting base with EasyTurn™ handles, allowing operation through a large rotation for easy setup. Its armature suspension design provides excellent axial compliance with high lateral stiffness. There are no rolling or sliding components to wear out or produce unwanted noise and distortion. Its 1 inch (25.4 mm) stroke, wide frequency range (useable to 6500 Hz), and innovative dual-purpose platform table design support a very broad range of applications.

Benefits:

  • Through-hole armature with chuck and collet attachment provides simple set-up with modal stingers
  • Lightweight and portable – weighing just 13 lb (6 kg) with a approximately 5 in (125 mm) square footprint
  • Trunnion base provides flexibility when choosing best exciter location(s)
  • 0.7 in stroke and broad frequency range supply adequate input energy for most small to mid-sized modal test applications

All of The Modal Shop modal shakers are supplied in a trunnion base allowing full rotation for easy set-up.  The through-hole armature design with chuck and collet attachment is ideal for use with either traditional modal stinger rods, like the 2150G12 (1/16 in diameter stingers) or piano wire, like the K2160G piano wire stinger kit with force sensor quick disconnect.  These stingers greatly simplify test set-up with easy connection to the force sensor and test structure, and help decouple cross-axis force inputs, minimizing or eliminating input force measurement errors.  For horizontal force inputs, the modal shakers adapt directly to the 2050A lateral excitation shaker stand, allowing convenient position adjustment over a wide area relative to a test structure.
