CINCINNATI, OH (March 1, 2005) — THE MODAL SHOP, INC. announces three variations of their Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAM) nondestructive test systems.  NDT-RAM systems range from a manual test system (NDT-MAN) to a semi-automated system (NDT-SEMI) to a fully automated system (NDT-AUTO) for both production and engineering development applications.

All of the NDT-RAM systems are ideal for manufacturers or users of powdered metal parts, castings, or forgings that have substantial inspection cost, require 100% inspection, produce or use safety-critical parts, have substantial scrap costs due to false rejects, or simply want to improve their part quality.  It can be used for the inspection of metal parts in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, and medical devices.  With no part preparation required, this technique can successfully identify internal and external flaws due to cracks, voids, material density, dimensions, porosity and nodularity as well as missed manufacturing processes.

The fully automated NDT-AUTO system includes an industrially packaged, 24 bit, 50 kHz LanSharc as its core, with an electrically controlled impact hammer and rugged microphone as sensors.  Additionally, the system includes a production line conveyor system with an acoustic chamber, photoelectric eyes, PLC, encoder and industrial PC with integrated flat panel monitor for efficient, 100% QC testing of parts.  The manual NDT-MAN system is ideal for spot checking and/or troubleshooting, and is extremely rugged and portable using just the LanSharc digital controller, an impact hammer and microphone.  The semi-automated NDT-SEMI system includes the LanSharc digital controller, the industrially packaged electric impact hammer, microphone and the industrial PC for easy integration into existing production line automation.

Significant trade-in credit is available for customers with competitive systems.  Free parts tests are offered for feasibility testing of your parts and system rentals are available allowing you to try the system in your factory before buying.  For free parts testing, specification sheets, application data, competitive product upgrades, pricing or to schedule a rental or demonstration, please contact THE MODAL SHOP, INC., 3149 E.
