Expand the Power of Your Calibrator with
No-Cost Upgrades

The Modal Shop is happy to introduce several upgrades to our Portable Vibration Calibrator Model 9110D which will allow you to:
  • Save money and time by calibrating and validating vibration analyzers and meters on site with our new Report Generation Workbook, available on all new PVCs or for existing customers free of charge. Check out this video to learn more!
  • Run pre-programmed semi-automated tests using CALROUTE firmware
  • Test sensors with charge amplifiers that output modulated current, such as the Vibro-meter IPC704 or IPC707

We are constantly working to make our portable calibrators the most robust, versatile, and user-friendly systems on the market. The features above are standard on all Model 9110D Portable Vibration Calibrators shipped on or after October 1, 2018. Customers with older PVCs are eligible for a free upgrade. Depending on the age of the unit, it may not need to be returned to our lab to complete the upgrade. Contact us for details!
Industry News

  • Meredith Christman, from the Industrial Division of PCB Piezotronics, discusses case isolation and frequency response requirements in her article in Maintenance World titled "Accelerometer Selection and Mounting Considerations for Motor Condition Monitoring". Interesting content here regarding isolation. Isolation is seldom discussed by manufacturers but is a critical requirement within API 670. Technicians who have dealt with a spiking issue know the importance of isolation.
  • Sheila Kennedy chronicles advancements within the industrial predictive maintenance market in her article "Move on This: Smart Vibration Analysis". Linked within the article is a video featuring Bjoern Mueller from Emerson regarding their new eddy current probes and drivers. Digital sensing technologies continue to revolutionize the PdM world. The 633A01 digital accelerometer from PCB Piezotronics can turn a tablet, phone, or computer into a vibration analyzer with the right app.
  • We hate to feature the same author twice but... "Taking the Pulse of Combustion", from Modern Pumping Today by the aforementioned Meredith Christman of PCB Piezotronics, is an interesting look at the evolution of high-temperature dynamic pressure sensors used in combustion dynamics.
Calibrating TrendMaster ® Sensors with a Portable Vibration Calibrator

Do you use GE Bently Nevada TrendMaster sensors to protect your balance of plant assets? The Modal Shop's Portable Vibration Calibrator (Model 9100D or 9110D) is a valuable tool to keep your system up and running reliably. Bring the lightweight, portable calibrator right to the sensor to loop-check the entire system from sensor to cabling to alarms. Create NIST-traceable calibration certificates in just a few steps. A PVC can save you time and money by streamlining your testing process and keeping your facility safe. Take a look at this video to learn how to test and calibrate TrendMaster vibration sensors.
Question of the Quarter

The Modal Shop has many dynamic pressure sensor calibration options. None of them are what one might call "portable." Should we design something that could be brought to the turbine during an outage for the purpose of system testing the combustion dynamics monitoring system?
