Welcome back to Dynamic Sensors & Calibration Tips! Read on for the latest information on shock accelerometers, upcoming educational events, and to learn more about the evolution of the reference accelerometer. As always, we welcome your feedback on topics of interest for upcoming articles, videos, and webinars.
Shock Accelerometers
By Robert Sill

Acceleration measurements in high-velocity impact and penetration environments require damped piezoresistive (PR) shock sensors to capture the complete pulse width and avoid extraneous out-band frequencies. Three high-g accelerometer signals can now be provided by a single surface-mount triaxial package...

Participating in continuing education programs and seminars is an excellent way to stay actively engaged in the technical community. PCB Piezotronics and The Modal Shop remain committed to providing education with the experts through our ever popular dynamic measurements seminars: "Dynamic Sensors and Their Calibration Methods" will be presented in Cincinnati, Ohio May 12 th while "Microphone & Acoustic Fundamentals and Advanced Applications" with Dr. Andrew Barnard will be presented in Depew, New York June 6 th - 7 th

Blast from the Past: Evolution of the Calibration Reference Accelerometer

In the early days of vibration measurement and calibration, users were plagued by a calibration conundrum that the supposedly identical input to accelerometers placed next to each other (or even on top of each other!) on a controlled shaker gave different responses. What at first glance seemed to be a contradiction, quickly began to show what we clearly know now: dynamics occur in ALL structures of ALL sizes...
