Introducing Adaptable Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAM) for Metal Component Part Inspection

THE MODAL SHOP, INC. announces improvements to our software option that allows for automated testing criteria modification based on variances in process inputs such as part weight for The Modal Shop’s versatile Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAMTM ) systems.  The NDT-ESP option automatically adapts NDT-RAM setups based on a process input (such as weight) communicated from an attached device (such as a scale).  Adaptable NDT-RAM saves users time by automatically modifying templates based on a part’s weight or other variable manufacturing input and allows the software to identify smaller resonant frequency shifts in a part since variances can be compensated for part to part.

Some variation from part to part is inevitable in regular manufacturing processes.  If these variations can be compensated for in real time then quality assurance testing criteria can be adapted to each parts unique structural characteristics and NDT-RAM can run uninterrupted in fully automated production lines while maintaining 100% inspection with more precise criteria to test against.  It is ideal for customers who test parts that vary in weight across lots or molds or even part to part and require adapting NDT-RAM setups automatically based on a production trigger.

All of the NDT-RAM systems are ideal for 100% inspection requirements for manufacturers or users of powder metal parts, castings (including ductile iron), forgings or stampings that have significant inspection costs (either material or labor costs), produce or use safety-critical parts, have substantial scrap costs due to false rejects, or simply want to improve their part quality. 

With no part preparation required, Resonant Acoustic Method NDT successfully identifies resonant frequency shifts resulting from internal or external flaws due to cracks, voids, material density, dimensions, porosity and nodularity as well as missed manufacturing processes.
