|Improved Low Frequency Accelerometer Calibration|
THE MODAL SHOP, INC. announces the release of a new, patent pending technology that greatly improves low frequency accelerometer calibration. The technique is capable of performing high quality measurements with very low uncertainties while maintaining good throughput and low cost. The methodology uses an optical encoder pick-up as the dynamic measurement reference instead of a traditional piggyback reference accelerometer. Since the optical encoder measures displacement, limitations due to shaker stroke length are nearly eliminated, with the practical limitation for a quality calibration measurement at ultra-low frequency being the resolution of the sensor-under-test itself.
As an option to the 9155 accelerometer calibration workstation, the optical encoder reference can be fitted to The Modal Shop’s precision calibration air bearing shaker which extends calibrations to as low as 1 Hz on a single, broad range shaker. The option is also available fitted to the more traditional long stroke shaker for extending calibrations to as low as ¼ Hz. More importantly, the resulting measurement uncertainties are nearly as good as laser primary calibrations in the sub-10 Hz range.
