Free Parts Nondestructive Testing

CINCINNATI, OH (July 28, 2005) — THE MODAL SHOP, INC. announces free nondestructive evaluation of parts to determine feasibility of quality assurance testing via the Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAMTM).  This technique is commonly used to test for a number of potential flaws in powdered metal, cast, forged and stamped parts.  The parts test allows manufacturers to send a small set of good and bad parts in for feasibility testing by The Modal Shop’s experienced NDT engineers and receive a detailed written report on the results prior to any capital investment.

The trial parts testing is an ideal way for manufacturers to explore quality assurance testing on powdered metal and cast parts via resonant inspection at no cost.  The benefits that can be realized from a successful parts test and installation of a RAM-NDT system include fast 100% inspection of parts prior to shipment to remove human interpretation errors from the quality assurance process, reduce scrap costs by minimizing false rejects, have a de facto process monitoring system in place that objectively measures part quality on 100% of the parts, and eliminate quality related recall and resorting costs.

The NDT-RAM inspection technique uses an instrumented impact hammer and a microphone for quality assurance testing of powdered metals and castings via the acoustic signature of components in a quick, cost-effective manner, allowing for fully automated quality control testing of 100% of parts in a production environment.  With no part preparation required, this technique can successfully identify internal and external flaws due to cracks, voids, material density, dimensions, bonding and missed manufacturing processes.  The NDT-RAM series of products includes products for both production and engineering development applications, ranging from manual to the fully automated in-line systems.

The NDT-RAM system is ideal for manufacturers or users of metal parts that have substantial inspection cost, require 100% inspection, produce or use safety-critical parts, have substantial scrap costs due to false rejects, or simply want to improve their part quality.  It can be used for the inspection of parts used in a variety of industries, including automobiles, aircraft, consumer goods, medical devices and other metallic products.
